The field of project logistics is full of challenges and risks. Market conditions are constantly evolving due to factors like fluctuations in global demand for transportation and the pandemic. To stay competitive, infrastructure companies and manufacturers require more expert support and “impossible” solutions than ever. In an environment where so much is at stake, the health of personnel, the safety of cargo, and punctual deliveries are paramount.
AsstrA Industrial Product Logistics (AIPL) has been supporting industrial projects and organizing one-off shipments of large, specialized equipment since 2016. Working with a well-developed network of like-minded strategic partners, we provide a comprehensive range of project freight and equipment transport services as well as supply chain solutions according to customers’ requirements.
In order to maximize our capabilities around the world, the AIPL Team is constantly expanding and has members in AsstrA offices in Italy, Poland, Finland, the UK, the USA, the CIS, and Asia. This year, the CIS and Italian divisions successfully secured new business that significantly contributed to the corporate group’s overall growth.
In 2021, the AIPL team transported more than 35,000 tons of cargo and over a total distance of 318,800 km. 93% of this cargo was heavy equipment and 63% consisted of chemical industry products. The most popular types of rolling stock used for project cargo were tilt-covered trucks, sided flat trucks, and open wagons, which respectively accounted for 28%, 17%, and 11% of orders.
Industrial projects frequently involve the shipment of heavy, oversized, high-value, time-sensitive, and hazardous cargo to remote locations and job sites. All regulatory paperwork associated with each cargo shipment must be entirely accurate and error-free. The AIPL team provides a full range of value-added delivery support services, including handling import and export documentation, organizing customs clearance, arranging insurance, negotiating freight rates, consolidating cargo, tracking, and supervising loading/unloading.
"I would like to thank my colleagues for their efforts, commitment, and loyalty during this busy and productive year. The department has implemented many complex projects, expanded its client portfolio, and grown its partner network. Over the next three years, AIPL will embark on the next stage of developing our project business and tackle exciting challenges in new countries. In particular, we will be expanding our global team and strengthening our relationships with strategic partners to protect and grow our share of the project logistics market.
With our strong and ambitious team as a solid foundation, we are ideally positioned to overcome whatever challenges appear next in the world of project logistics," shares Colin Bagwell, Global Head of Project Logistics at AsstrA-Associated Traffic AG.
AsstrA project logistics specialists serve 460 dedicated trade lanes. In the most recent reporting period, 28% of shipments were made within a given country, 20% were from South Korea to Russia, and 16% were from India to Uzbekistan. In 2021, the AIPL team planned and executed deliveries on 57 new routes, including USA-Brazil as Oman-Russia as well domestic ones within the UAE, South Korea and India.
