Multimodal transportation of viscose staple fiber from China to Ukraine

18.08.2026

In July 2026, transport and logistics company AsstrA-Associated Traffic AG successfully completed a project involving the transportation of viscose staple fiber packed in bales. The shipment was arranged for a Ukrainian company specializing in the production of wood pulp, packaging paper, printing paper, as well as specialty wood pulp for the fiber cement and textile industries.

The shipment was organized using a multimodal transport solution. The cargo was transported by rail in a 40HQ container from Xi’an, China, to Małaszewicze, Poland. Thanks to the Express Line service, the rail leg took just 14 days.

“Meeting the delivery deadline was the client’s key requirement, as any delay could have resulted in a production stoppage. Thanks to thorough planning of the logistics solution, close coordination among all parties involved, and the well-coordinated work of the AsstrA team, the cargo was delivered right on schedule,” says Irena Topalova, Head of the Poland Rail Division at AsstrA.

Upon arrival in Poland, the container was transported to an AsstrA partner warehouse located near the Małaszewicze rail terminal, where the AsstrA team transloaded the cargo into an FTL truck for onward delivery to the consignee in Ukraine.

A particular challenge of the project was the transloading operation. Viscose staple fiber is a delicate cargo that requires careful handling. To ensure safe handling, AsstrA experts arranged for specialized lifting equipment fitted with bale clamps to move the bales. Another essential requirement was thorough equipment preparation: the forklift had to be perfectly clean and free of any sharp or protruding elements that could damage the packaging or the cargo itself.

“We highly value the trust of our clients, especially when they have high expectations of their logistics partners. For a company with more than 25 years of experience in the market, the key priorities in this project were reliability, service quality and cost efficiency. We successfully delivered on the client’s requirements and met their expectations,” says Elena Mikhailova, Account Manager at AsstrA.

This project is another example of AsstrA’s expertise in managing shipments that require an individual approach. When cargo requires specialized equipment, non-standard handling procedures, transloading at a specific warehouse, or the development of a multimodal transport route, AsstrA experts are ready to identify the optimal solution and ensure its successful execution.
