AsstrA Now Supports Italy-USA Air Freight
In response to customer requirements and market conditions, the Italian branch of Internal logistics operator AsstrA has expanded its transatlantic cargo transportation capabilities to include air freight from Italy to the USA.
Italy’s economy is one of the largest in Europe and plays a significant role in global logistics and freight transport, with trade accounting for 75% of the country’s GDP. The country has an export-oriented economy and is the 8th largest exporter in the world. According to Comtrade, Italy's main trading partners are Germany (accounting for 12.4% of exports), the USA (10.4%), France (10.1%), Spain (5.2%), and Switzerland (5%). While a variety of shipping options are available for intra-European logistic chains, intercontinental deliveries typically require a choice between air and sea transport depending on target delivery times.
In October 2023, an industrial automation equipment manufacturer approached AsstrA with a request to deliver production line parts from Italy to the USA. In addition to strict delivery deadlines, the size and weight of the cargo presented significant challenges. The parts measured 213x143x145 cm and 203x138x145 cm and weighed 1632 kg and 1508 kg, respectively. Despite dimensions and weights rarely encountered in air freight orders, AsstrA’s Italian professionals successfully organized the shipment.
"The cargo was to be picked up directly from the production site, so it was necessary to organize additional delivery by road to Malpensa Airport in Milan. Thanks to our direct relationship with the air carrier, United Airlines, we were able to minimize transportation costs and delivery time," shares Alan Terzi, Forwarder in the AsstrA Italia Airfreight and Express Delivery Division.
After the successful pilot delivery, during the first three months of 2024 the AsstrA Italia team organized 9 more transcontinental air freight shipments along this route, which has proved popular among clients thanks to cost efficiency and high-quality services provided by AsstrA.
