AsstrA Heavy Lift Punctually Takes Huge Excavator From Dusseldorf to Kryvyi Rih

10.09.2019

For centuries, natural resource extraction has played a key role in global financial stability. Today, mining continues to influence the world's economy and labor markets.

Modern mining involves taking full advantage of known mineral deposits. Innovative engineering solutions ensure the safety and productivity of the workers involved in these processes.

The Komatsu PC3000 hydraulic excavator is capable of loading 3,000 tons of rock per hour for 6,000 hours in compliance with all safety standards. One AsstrA client from the mining industry ordered the shipment of one such excavator from Dusseldorf, Germany, to Krivyi Rih, Ukraine. The AsstrA team organized the transportation using 10 special oversized cargo platforms and a curtain-sided lorry. The largest part weighed 70 tons with dimensions of 8.0 m x 5.4 m x 3.85 m.

“It took 5 weeks to arrange transportation. As agreed with the client, all 11 cars needed to arrive and be unloaded together.  The German holiday season was another complicating factor. During this period, the time required to obtain permits for the transportation of oversized cargo is twice or even three times higher than normal. Because of the holidays, the cars stood waiting for loading and escort in Germany for a week,” says Anna Pushkalyuk, AsstrA Heavy Lift Specialist.

The organization of bulky transportation is difficult for many reasons. In addition to specific legal regulations in effect in different countries, all the relevant infrastructure on the chosen route must be carefully examined to ensure that it is adequate.

“Due to the dimensions of the cargo, I had to change the Ukrainian customs clearance point from Kyiv – where the bridges could not support 135-ton vehicles – to nearby Kalynivka. After taking care of all the documentation, the cargo was successfully delivered to Kryvyi Rih. 11 cars were unloaded punctually at the same time. The hydraulic excavator has already been put into operation for iron ore mining according the planned schedule,” summarizes Victoriya Lukyanets, AsstrA Heavy Lift Specialist.
