AsstrA Cargo Consolidation Shipments Help Customers and the Environment

The quality of roads affect the comfort and safety of their users. Special road construction fibers are used to stabilize the asphalt mix, increase its resistance to mold, and improve its consistency. The overall purpose of using such fibers is to strengthen and optimize the properties of the asphalt. In August, the AsstrA corporate group coordinated the transport of cellulose fibers from Germany to China for a client from the construction industry.

During the first stage of the project, in 36 hours a team of experts from AsstrA’s Europe-China Division organized the transportation of groupage cargo weighing 330 tons from Germany to a temporary storage warehouse in Poland.

The second project stage involved further consolidation of the cargo for rail transport. Consolidation is often a key part of a supply chain between a cargo’s sender and recipient. This process requires a logistic’s company full oversight and special attention to coordination. Thanks to this, the time and financial costs of a logistics project are minimized for clients.

“From the moment the goods are loaded in Easten Germany to their arrival at the warehouse in Lodz in Poland, the standard transit time is 1 day. The design of a modern tilt semi-trailer allows top, side and rear loading and unloading of palletized goods. After 15 full trucks were dispatched, the goods were delivered to the warehouse for storage and transshipment into railway containers,” says Stanislav Martynov, a China Rail Division Specialist.

After the goods arrived at the warehouse in Lodz, which has some of the Poland’s best infrastructure for container consolidation and deconsolidation, the following additional operations were carried out:

• receipt of goods from the sender in Germany and other companies sending cargo to China;
• verification of shipping documents, specifications, and the required certificates to be attached to the goods;
• calculation of the amount of space assigned to each recipient;
• placement of cardboard packages on pallets, fastening with belts and shock-absorbing pads;
• verification of the prepared goods, recalculation of quantities, pre-loading photo records, placement in containers, and delivery to the terminal for onward delivery to the final consignee in China.

“The use of specialized technology and sharing-economy innovations brings clear benefits to cargo senders, recipients, carriers, and the environment. Growing interest in groupage transportation has prompted us to introduce consolidation services to support building complete shipments with groupage cargo from multiple customers. Clients do not pay to “rent” a full container, because cargo from several shippers fills the available space. In addition, a single vehicle transporting goods from multiple shippers emits far less exhaust,” says Stanislav Martynov.
