AsstrA Successfully Completes Road Shipment of Railcars

08.06.2020

Every day, tens of thousands of vehicles operate on international highways. Occasionally, these vehicles includes convoys of trucks moving oversized, non-standard cargo like medical modules, components of petrochemical plants, and even homes.

Any successful oversized cargo project begins with good preparation. As opposed to a standard transportation project, analysis of the details of an oversized cargo transportation project takes much longer than the actual transportation. To begin with, routing options, loading and unloading schemes, fastenings, and paperwork must all be considered.

Escorts for special equipment and independent verification of cargo security and fastening materials must all be organized by experts. AsstrA Heavy Lift Department Head Przemyslaw Boronski shares some experiences working on a oversized cargo transportation project.

“In March 2020, a railway rolling stock manufacturer entrusted us with a complex but interesting project. In involved delivering two 26 meter railcars from Belarus to Hungary. The weight of the units were 31 and 41 tons, respectively, with a height of 4.5 meters. Special equipment was used: low loader semi-trailers with a trolley on pendulum axles. To quickly resolve emerging issues, our colleagues from the Minsk office arrived early at the loading site. The installation of the cars on semi-trailers was overseen from start to finish.”

For AsstrA employees, being on-site to monitor cargo loading, unloading, or transshipment of cargo is all in a day’s work. Clients receive direct photo and video reports confirming that their cargo is secure and properly fastened.

Ensuring safety and minimizing the spread of the coronavirus is also an important part of their work every day.

“Since this unloading took place before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, our experts are not wearing masks, gloves, and protective equipment in this photo. Due the current epidemiological situation, the company follows all recommendations from the WHO and local authorities,” notes Ilya Klimentenok, Head of the AsstrA Transport Manufacturing Logistics Division.
