The International Air Transport Association, or IATA, was launched in Havana, Cuba, in April 1945. This non-governmental organization had 57 founding members from 31 states. According to Wikipedia, as of the beginning of 2021, 290 IATA representatives from 120 countries operated 82% of international flights.
The association is influential around the world. Today, each member of the organization is focused on the development and promotion of air transportation serving the interests and meeting the expectations of consumers. The organization’s global mission has always been to support, manage, and develop the aviation industry.
IATA focuses on ensuring top-quality technical support, setting appropriate rates, setting industry standards, and providing consulting on legal, medical, and financial issues related to the aviation industry. In addition, IATA acts as a mediator to resolve issues between airlines that cannot be resolved directly.
Operating on the transport logistics market since December 2016, the AsstrA office in Istanbul continues steadily adding to the range of services it provides to Türkish clients. One of office’s priorities for 2021 is improving its air transport offerings. Joining IATA was therefore a natural step forward this year. IATA applicants are thoroughly vetted and, upon acceptance, are awarded a certificate to confirm that they provide world-class air transportation services.
AsstrA’s offices in Poland, Italy, and Russia are already IATA members. On 7 June 2021, AsstrA Türkiye became the corporate group’s fourth subsidiary to be IATA certified. The Istanbul team was able to complete the certification process faster than most applicants.
Abdullah Karabulut
“We received IATA certification only six months after we applied for it. That means our Air Transportation Department in Istanbul is already operating under the auspices of IATA”, says Abdullah Karabulut, AsstrA Air Transportation Specialist in Türkiye.
For clients, AsstrA Türkiye’s IATA certification means lower final costs of transport, as there is one less link in the supply chain to handle. The safety of flights and transported cargo remains a priority for both the AsstrA team and IATA. The recognition will help clients have full confidence in the quality of the air transport services AsstrA offers in Türkiye. Therefore, clients can have more time to plan and implement long-term development strategies.
