AsstrA Signs Letter to EU on CO2 Emissions

17.07.2023

AsstrA-Associated Traffic AG has joined a Smart Freight Centre initiative calling for higher CO2 standards for trucks in the European Union. Alongside other leading organizations such as Transport & Environment, Climate Group, CALSTART, European Clean Trucking Alliance, Nestle, Deutsch Post, and DHL, AsstrA has signed a letter to the European Parliament regarding CO2 emissions regulations for heavy-duty vehicles.

The letter emphasizes key areas of concern:

Firstly, it calls for the 2030 CO2 reduction emissions target to be more ambitiously set at 65% as opposed to the -45% at which it stands currently. According to estimations, this significant adjustment would bring an additional 150,000 zero-emission trucks to the market.

Secondly, the letter also urges that the regulatory scope of the climate targets be applied to all types of trucks.

Lastly, the signees emphasize the necessity of a steadfast commitment to achieving 100% zero-emission trucks in the long run. This bold objective reflects their determination to drive lasting improvements to air quality.

The letter has been sent to EU lawmakers. Presently, EU environment ministers and the European Parliament are drafting and deliberating on the standards to be set out final regulations, which are expected to be finalized early in 2024.

“AsstrA is is fully committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across all of our business. The transition towards the affordable and emission-free movement of goods in Europe is our shared responsibility,” says Dmitri Krõlov, Sustainable Development Manager at AsstrA.
