The volume of rail freight in Kazakhstan showed healthy growth in 2023.
Rail transit volume during the first 10 months of 2023 increased by 19% vs the same period in 2022 and amounted to 22.5 million tons of cargo, which indicated that the country’s logistics potential was being utilized more. The volume of export rail freight traffic increased by 8.5%, reaching 70.7 million tons. In total, just over 200 million tons of cargo were transported, an increase of 3% compared to 2022.
Also in 2023, a number of infrastructure projects were launched, including construction of the Dostyk- Moiynty railway track to increase the capacity of the China-Europe transit corridor as well as construction of a section of the Darbaza-Maktaaral railroad to further increase freight turnover between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
